This week, we spent time talking about a more detailed problem triangle. This problem triangle helps to further define situations with factors such as danger/no danger, how many people are involved, how long the problem lasts and how available a solution may be. This is a tough concept and will become part of the language in our classroom. Based on this triangle, we played a game sorting the sizes of problems in given scenarios. The kids had fun with this. I've added photos of them playing to the slideshow under "Photos". On Thursday, we watched a short video that Ms. McQuillan found on Hidden Curriculum. We will be addressing one "Hidden Curriculum" item per week now. This week, we tackled Nose Picking. The video was funny and the kids learned about how and when to pick your nose (in the bathroom with a tissue). The fifth graders also met a new Unthinkable--Brain Eater. Brain Eater distracts you and tries to keep you from thinking about the topic or the person talking to you. To defeat Brain Eater, we learned to take cues from our eyes to keep our brain in the group. We also learned about using fidgets or other tools to keep us from becoming distracted. On Friday, we celebrated the full week with a game day.
Please remember to fill out the Autism Awareness Month survey (check your email). Also, if you volunteered to send in some white poster board, you may start doing so. Thank you!
Joke of the week:
Knock, knock.
Who's there?
Frank.
Frank who?
Frank you for being my friend!
