We had a great week during which we accomplished A LOT! This week, I was out of the classroom on Monday for meetings. My students read the Habit #7 story with the guest teacher. They drew ways they can balance their body, heart, mind and soul. On Tuesday, the kids enjoyed a game day with Mrs. Szalay, expect for my 3rd graders who had some M-STEP practice to do. On Thursday, 3rd graders talked about productive ways to advocate for themselves. 2nd graders caught up on some classwork and 4th and 5th graders made some time to work on their personal information (addresses and family phone numbers). On Friday, my 3rd graders read All My Stripes, a book about the feelings of kids with autism. It's a fantastic book! I actually get a little teary each time I read it to my kiddos! Ms. McQuillan and I actually purchased 2 copies of this book (picture book) and 2 copies of the book called Rules (a chapter book) for our school for autism awareness month. We're hoping that by putting these materials in the hands of our Lakewood students, we are promoting more awareness and acceptance. If you haven't read these two kids books, I highly recommend them!
My other kiddos continued to address their personal information on Friday.
There was no joke of the week or emotional vocabulary word this week. Between meetings and district and state assessments, we're feeling a bit pinched for time. So this week, those to areas were dropped. There will, for sure, be a joke next week! :)
**Please note that next week, I will be out on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to support our kids at 5th grade camp. I will not have access to my email or responding to emails or phone calls for these days. If you have an urgent issue or an emergency, please contact the school office. Thanks!**
Have a great weekend!
