Our super groanable joke of the week was:
"What is a pilgrim's favorite kind of music?
Plymouth Rock!"
Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving weekend and celebration! I am just getting back on my feet after a rough bout of sickness, but I thought I'd let you know what was happening in the few days before break and share our (lame) joke of the week from last week. We spent Monday and Tuesday talking about being thankful. We read a book about being thankful for everyday things and people and spent some time thinking about what we are thankful for. We also spent some time talking about Thanksgiving festivities and what kinds of foods we eat for the holiday. It was neat to have the children share their thoughts and then ask others (my fifth grade group is really getting the hang of turn-taking conversations! Way to go guys!)

Hi Everyone! Sorry this post took so long--the week kind of got away from me! We did a lot of learning last week and covered a lot of ground. We read about Habit 3: Put first things first. We talked about the importance of prioritizing and getting our work done before we play. Some children shared about their evening routines which reflect that concept, so it was great to hear! We also added Rock Brain to our Superflex Notebooks--the children wrote about him, wrote how to defeat him and colored a picture. On Thursday and Friday, we spent some time taking a Social Thinking Survey, where the children rate their understanding and demonstration of the basic social skills from the Social Thinking curriculum. It was interesting to see some children reflections line up with my assessment of them, and other children have very different perspectives of their abilities. It is something we will continue to revisit throughout the year. On Friday, we had a massive game day with 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th graders from our program. It was great to watch the kids form new groups and navigate new social interactions with children with whom they don't always interact.
The joke of the week this week was: "Why was the math book so sad? It had too many problems!" I hope you had a warm weekend! Bundle up this week! We began this week by sharing about our Halloween experiences. Mrs. Szalay met with the groups and had them describe their favorite candy and had the other children try to guess what it was. Yikes! This was tricky! On Thursday, we began our Superflex Notebooks. We wrote about Superflex, the superhero of Social Town and put his picture and description in the notebooks we'll be keeping this year. Next week, we'll begin adding some Unthinkables (characters that cause people to not be social and think about others). First up, Rock Brain! Friday, we enjoyed game day! It was a busy week, and not having school on Tuesday cut down on our social skill time, but we made the best of it and had a lot of fun! Have a great weekend!
