I hope you enjoy your long weekend! Please remember that there's no school Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. There are activities in Milford this weekend--check out the HVS website for details.
On Monday, I was in a meeting, so students worked with a guest teacher on a book called My Mouth is a Volcano. This book is about being impulsive and interrupting. They worked on ways to keep your thoughts in your mouth until it is your turn to talk. On Tuesday, the children enjoyed a game day with Mrs. Szalay and their peers. These days are awesome opportunities to practice real-life skills with their classmates in a supported way. On Thursday and Friday, we worked on a book about Martin Luther King Jr. Students learned about MLK and what he stood for. A few of my groups had really nice conversations about segregation and civil rights. I also seized the opportunity to talk about violence vs. peace. We talked about how it is okay to get mad about things that are wrong and unfair, but it is important to use our words to solve problems.
We did not have a joke or emotional word of the week this week. Stay tuned for next week's hilarious antics!
