This week, I introduced the kids to Superflex! He is a social super hero that works to help people overcome the Unthinkables (unexpected behaviors depicted as characters). My 2nd, 4th and 5th graders read a book about Superflex and Rock Brain. Rock Brain is an Unthinkable that makes people get stuck on their thoughts (rigid thinking). We had some nice discussion and the kids tied it well to last weeks lessons on flexible thinking. We colored a picture of Superflex and will be adding him to our Social Skills notebook.
This week, the kids also read about Thinking Win-Win (habit 4) and had some nice discussion on that. We also worked on our Leadership Notebooks and added our first social story about positive thinking (tying in nicely with flexible thinking). I will eventually be adding a tab that has copies of all of the social stories that the children are working with. This one was about turning negative thoughts (I can't do this!) into positive thoughts (I can try). We will keep working on this important skill.
The joke this week was: "What did the turkey say to his computer? Google, Google!"
The emotional vocabulary word of the week was: enraged. The children wrote it under "angry" in their notebooks.
