We had a nice week studying up on our friend Superflex and learning about Rock Brain! The children added Rock Brain to their social skills notebook after we learned who he is, what he does and how we can defeat him. They learned that Rock Brain is an Unthinkable that gets your brain stuck on certain topics. They learned that being flexible is the fastest way to to defeat him. This can be done by listening to the opinions and thoughts of others, trying new things, and following plans made by others. This tied in very well with all of the work we've been doing on flexible and rigid thinking.
On Tuesday, Mrs. Szalay (our social worker) had a game day with the kids and included some of their peers into each group. It was a great chance for our kids to practice their game skills with others in a controlled setting. We also learned a lot about them!
My 2nd and 3rd graders wrote their letters to Santa. 5th graders will complete these next week. This is one of my favorite activities of the year--you know I don't let them get away with just making a list! This year, they have to write some of the "nice" things they've done if they claim to be on the nice list. They also have to prioritize items they want and identify some "needs" rather than just all "wants".
This week's joke was: "What does a gingerbread man put on his bed?
Cookie sheets!"
Our emotional vocabulary word was "excited". The children added this to the "happy" page in their notebooks.
Have a great weekend!
