This week we began to learn about using a social filter. This new social vocabulary word goes along with the concept of blurting out or "erupting". When we have thoughts sometimes those thoughts need to stay in a thought bubble and not leave the filter. They need to be "stuck" or "trapped" as we talked about. Some thoughts turn into words and they go "through" the filter and into speech bubbles. We will be exploring this topic into next week as well. As the first graders talked about, some thoughts are hurtful or considered rude so they should stay stuck in our filter. Things like "this is boring", "I hate this", "her hair cut is terrible", are all statements that we are allowed to think, but shouldn't let through the filter. I will take pictures next week, but we used a cup of water (our words), a filter (for the social filter), a vase and marbles (thoughts). The marbles would get stuck while the water would go through the filter. Each child had a chance to put both into the filter and watch the results.
We also had Irish Dancers on Tuesday that we saw, so we watched a short clip of Riverdance to be primed for what to expect. We talked about our noticings of the music and dancers.
The kids all took the reading MAP test as well. In kindergarten, the kids worked on word families. And, all kids had a funny day on St. Patrick's day with all the green and leprechaun activities! Teachers worked on report cards this week, so those will be open next week sometime. If you want a paper copy, please let the office know and you can have a printed copy. Have a nice weekend!
