On Monday, we started with a review of their Mother's Day plans and experiences. I was in meetings so the sub read the story, "Mom and Me" and talked about what they did over the weekend. Tuesday, Mrs. Szalay held her game day! Later in the week we worked on our Circles program. We added the purple circle and the blue circle to our social detective notebooks. The kids colored and cut out each circle and glued them in. They also wrote a title for purple "Me" and blue "Family". As a reminder, the purple circle is always self. This is linked to knowing your personal information and eventually learning what information to keep private (SSN, bank account numbers, etc.). The blue circle we typically associate with those who live in our house and are family members. These people we trust extremely well with information (again what we lead up to, this hasn't been taught yet). We will move into the green circle where we talk about extended family and very close friends next.
The kindergarten kids worked on land forms and started a flip book. We have been talking about our noticings. The kids also took a hearing and recording sounds test where I read 2 sentences and they wrote each sound they heard. Similar to a spelling test with sentences. They were not assessed on handwriting or any reversals of letters, just sounds they heard. I will then be comparing their scores from winter to now.
Make it a great week!
