This week we reviewed the expected and unexpected behaviors within the school setting. These can transfer into the home and community as well. We did thumbs up for expected behaviors and thumbs down for unexpected behaviors. I have a set of large cartoon pictures that we looked at, talked about and voted on. If you would like to review these at home, please let me know. I'd be happy to share them (I laminated them so they can take spills). The first graders cut out smaller versions of these and glued them after they sorted them. These posters are now hanging in our classroom.
The kindergarten kids were assessed on upper, lower case letters and sounds. The assessments are to identify the name and sound of a letter. As I assessed Mrs. Wolff made a T chart with the kids about having recess buddies! We talked about what is expected and unexpected about having a big buddy to play with. We talked about how we don't boss them around, but instead take turns with them, talk with them, and can learn how to play new games with them.
I am sending home a note with the names of your child's buddy(buddies). We had some extra kids sign up so some of us will have an extra day and this will rotate as the year goes on. All buddies are on Mondays and Thursdays (some on Wednesdays as well). The kids were really excited to start their leadership job playing with our students!
We also worked on the Chromebooks with the website minimouse to practice mouse skills for our upcoming MAP test. The kids will take the test in my classroom during their classes scheduled time, but will have my room to wiggle or be a little louder in as an accommodation. The kids will be wearing headphones and using a mouse to answer questions. The first round starts on Tuesday.
Please see our OT tab to watch some YouTube videos from our very own, Mrs. Tracie Schanen about all things OT! We are very excited to add her as an additional video resource :) Enjoy!
