Happy March! I'm combining last week and this week, full of snow days, for the blog this week. In kindergarten we wrapped up the reading assessments. Those included not only reading a story to me, but also hearing words and writing what kids hear. They record using only their hearing and spelling skills. Letter reversals and handwriting do not count as long as they are reflecting the correct letters/sounds. We will be working on rhyming and assessing their rhyme skills next week. We wrapped up some MAP concepts for social studies. We looked at a big book of maps including photographs. We looked at where we live, where land and water are on maps, some of the key symbols and what they mean. We completed a worksheet identifying the number of things on a map and locating symbols. We also had game day with Mrs. Szalay.
First graders worked on the picture above and added it to our Social Detective Notebooks. We listed out things we are in control of and things we are not in control of so they have it as a reference in their notebooks. They also had a game day with Mrs. Szalay. Their DRA assessments are done as well and I can update you with how each child did and what we need to work on if you are interested. It will be added to the report card for you to read as well. Part of our Thursday WIN we finished up working on their unit test in math so that they could have a quiet space to work in.
Don't forget that T-shirt orders are due March 18th. We will be holding our 3rd annual BLUE OUT on April 15th and will ask the whole school to wear blue. World Autism Awareness Day is April 2nd but we will not be here so Mrs. Reece and I created our own Lakewood Blue Out date. This will give our recess buddies an extra meeting time (we met this morning) to work on posters to hang around the school. Our 5th grade recess buddies will also be planning a speech or presentation for community time to advertise for the Blue Out. If you need another order form please let me know.
Have a great weekend!
