Hello families! This week we continued cutting and gluing pictures of teachers, community helpers, friends, and strangers from magazine ads and google images. We focused on the important parts and rules of interacting with strangers. I will be posting them once we practice a bit more. The older kids and I read the story, "Stay Away From Strangers". The younger kids K-1 will be reading this book next week in group. We talked about the feeling of "butterflies" in your stomach and how that is sometimes a feeling of being anxious, nervous, or uncomfortable. I taught them that this feeling helps you to stay safe and we need to listen to our bodies for messages. Basically, the old saying of "trusting your gut" applies. Kids can be taught to use their intuition if we spell it out for them. I would rather have kids be over-cautious than too trusting. More to come next week on this topic. If you have any examples, books, or thoughts I would love to hear other ways we could build on this topic from our Circles program.
A few reminders: field day will be Wednesday in the afternoon. The morning should resume as normal. Friday I will not be in. It's the last session of a consulting group I was part of this year through Oakland Schools. The kids will be working on Father's Day activities with my sub and the paras. Kindergarten has a field trip that day also. I finished a lot of the report card assessments, but we may have a few more things to accomplish next week before I meet with each grade level teacher to work on cards and comments. I will also begin preparing the 1-2 graders for their transition to Mrs. Reece in the fall. I am still getting referrals for kindergarteners for the fall!! Busy, busy! :)
Have a great weekend! If you were planning on the outdoor movie, I hope you find something else just as fun to do with your family!
