This week we began with a writing compare and contrast chart about Thanksgiving and Christmas. We filled in a Venn Diagram to show the similarities and differences of each holiday. Then we moved into a problem solution writing prompt of "Santa got stuck in the chimney!" That was fun. They are posted outside of our classroom. We also wrote letters to Santa. The parties took up the rest of this week and that wraps up the last two school weeks of 2014! I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year! See you in 2015! This week we continued our work with speech and thought bubbles and wrote examples of what we could say opposed to things we should not say. The kids worked really hard using their best handwriting and showing awareness of visual boundaries as they were listing. We really focused on the fact that we can have negative thoughts to include rude words, protesting, and negative comments as long as we kept them in our brain and didn't allow them to go through the filter. Impulse control is so difficult when a situation is heated and we are upset. Many adults struggle with this skill! We will continue to support them as they are upset and remind them to have appropriate speech bubbles. I found thought and speech bubble stickers that we used to cue us on our lists also (love when those things come together!). In the coming weeks we will be preparing for holiday activities in their general education classrooms. Please remember that the social story workshop is on Dec. 15th at MHS.
