Welcome back! Actually for almost all of you, this is more of a welcome message than a return message!! So, welcome either way. This week was a big week. I know many of you felt nervous, worried, and concerned. That is totally normal! As we all get into a routine it will feel better.
We spent a lot of the week exploring the sensory room and the classrooms. The kids began to go to specials and practiced sitting together for "group" (social skills). We focused on praising the positive behaviors, offering reinforcers, and for any negative behaviors, showed the expected things to do. If someone was maybe too loud we modeled a "talking" voice and encouraged them to try it too. The kids all went down to the lunchroom and got to experience that. We have a wonderful PE teacher that lets us keep a pair of extra headphones in her office in case we need them.
I think we have spare clothing for almost all of you, which we are keeping labeled in one of our lockers near our Centrum bathroom. A reminder that the Kindergarten kids need to have 2 snacks packed for morning and afternoon. Packing one large snack is sometimes hard for (all) the kids to set aside enough for the afternoon.
A reminder that our curriculum night is this Thursday. There are two sessions. We suggest going to both your grade level teacher for a session on the curriculum and our session about more specific ASD program features/information with me and Mrs. Reece. I look forward to seeing you!
Hug your kids and tell them how proud you are of them tackling such a big transition!!
